Graduation is a day for celebration, tears and maybe a couple bottles of champagne shared between you and your best friends before walking across that stage. It is not a day to have a bad hair day. Too bad this is easier said than done because it is so dang difficult to make your hair look good with those awkward caps sitting on top of your head. In effort to have a good hair day on graduation, I’m using my new ghd straightener to create loose mermaid waves!

Let’s be honest, it is a pain to style your hair for graduation. That cap doesn’t fit anybody right and too much volume can make you look like a lioness (but still fierce, of course). So I decided to do something a little more relaxed for graduation and used my ghd straightener to create loose mermaid waves.
This 1 inch styler is from ghd’s new azores collection, and I am obsessed with the gorgeous marine color that reminds me of the sparkling ocean in Mexico! To create my look, I used a heat protectant spray all over then took small sections of my hair and wrapped them around the styler. By using a straightener instead of a curling iron, you get a more relaxed look that can fit easily underneath those pesky graduation caps.
To make sure you have every strand nicely waved, I like to go through quickly at first then go back and give some pieces a little extra love. The lightness of this ghd straightener makes it easy to style your hair and I love how the smooth plates make my hair so glossy! Also when you’re finished you can toss your straightener in the matching heat resistant bag it comes with and not have to worry about letting it cool down, since we know most of us will probably be running late anyways on graduation day! What do you think of this hairstyle for graduation? How will you be wearing your hair that day?
